Game Report

After a big 5-1 win over the Rochester Americans on Friday night, the Belleville Senators headed back home to do battle with the Laval Rocket for the final time this season. The last time these teams met up, the Senators hammered the Rocket by a score of 8-2. Laval was looking for the last laugh after that crushing defeat.

The first period was played at a good pace. The teams exchanged some solid scoring chances, but it was Senators who made good on a chance in the opening frame. After some solid work from Nick Paul, Boston Leier walked in and wired one past Charlie Lindgren to get Belleville on the board. Filip Gustavsson was solid in the frame, notably making a glove save on Nikita Korostelev. After 20 minutes, the Senators led 1-0.

The second period brought more of the same. The Senators continued to apply pressure to the Rocket, doing a great job on the counter attack and turning Laval over. Nick Moutrey had a great chance to score off the rush but was denied by Lindgren. However just moments later, Max Lajoie scored his first professional goal to extend the Senators lead to 2-0. After two periods of play, Belleville led by two.

But the third period was a different story. The Rocket came back to tie it up, on the shoulders of Chris Terry who scored twice in the period. The first came off a nice feed from Matt Taormina, the second was a wrist shot right after a face-off in the Belleville end. This game needed extra time.

In the overtime period, the teams played cautiously in the early going, not wanting to be the side to make a mistake. But late in the period the teams opened up. Parker Kelly had a glorious chance to end it, after chasing down a loose puck, but was denied by Lindgren. This game headed to a shootout where Jack Rodewald scored the lone goal to win it 3-2 for Belleville.

Belleville got the last laugh over their division rivals in this one. Though they almost coughed this one up, they managed to sneak away with two points. Belleville has nearly a week off before they hit the road to visit the Rochester Americans once again.
