Game Report

The North Division final featured two teams who were proficient at filling the net in the regular season. True to form, the Manchester Monarchs came out flying in the first period peppering Beast starter Zach Fucale with 19 shots. The Beast had just seven shots on goal in the opening frame.

But Fucale continued his fine post-season play making 18 saves, allowing just one goal to the Monarchs late in the period.

Lynch scored again early in the second period, his fourth of the playoffs. But just 21 seconds later Brandon MacLean pulled the Beast to within one.

Trailing their opponent heading into the final frame is becoming almost routine for the Beast. The comeback on Thursday night didn’t take long. Connor Crisp converted a David Vallorani feed just 1:26 into the third period.

Having scored the tying marker, Crisp earned the first star of the game by scoring the game-winner 1:27 into overtime. Crisp drove into the Monarchs zone and around the net looking for a wraparound. His shot banked in off a Manchester defenceman to bring fans in the Powerade Centre to their feet.

Once again, it was a thrilling comeback for the Beast. They will take a 1-0 series lead into Game 2 on Saturday night.
