STATE COLLEGE, PA — The AHL Report team from Rocket Sports Media traveled to central Pennsylvania this season to experience first-hand the excitement and intensity of NCAA Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey.

With special thanks to our hosts, Penn State University and Head Coach Guy Gadowsky, our team chronicled the culture of hockey for both fans and student-athletes alike at Penn State over the course of two games.

It didn’t take long to understand why NCAA hockey is not only attracting the attention of NHL general managers looking to draft or sign high-quality athletes, but also thousands of loyal, passionate fans who travel sometimes for hours and hours just to cheer for their favorite team.

Reporter/Producer Amy Johnson takes us inside Pegula Ice Arena to give viewers a peek at the unique atmosphere inside a college hockey game. Watch the video in the player below and be sure to subscribe to our channel on YouTube.

Over 60 NCAA institutions, which include approximately 1,600 student-athletes, are eligible to compete in the Frozen Four, the NCAA’s National Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. To determine a champion, the field will be whittled down to 16 teams to compete for the title. Per the NCAA’s website, “Of the 16 teams, six conference champions will receive automatic qualification with the remaining best 10 teams being selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee.”

Those 16 teams will be announced on March 22, 2020 during a Selection Show and will move on to compete for a chance to play in the semi-finals and championship game at the Frozen Four April 9-11, 2020 at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, MI.

To get there, they’ll first need to win at one of four regional competitions held around the country from March 27-29, 2020:

  • Northeast: DCU Center, Worchester, MA (Hosted by Holy Cross)
  • West: Budweiser Events Center, Loveland, CO (Hosted by Denver)
  • East: Times Union Center, Albany, NY (Hosted by ECAC Hockey)
  • Midwest: PPL Center, Allentown, PA (Hosted by Penn State)

The Rocket Sports Media team has provided coverage of the Frozen Four championship and the Midwest Regionals in prior years, and strongly recommends fans to attend any of the games to witness some very competitive, highly skilled hockey. Tickets can be purchased at by clicking HERE.
