Game Report

After downing the Rochester Americans 3-1 the previous night, the IceCaps and Amerks took to the Mile One Centre ice again on Saturday night for the final time this season.  The home team got things moving quickly when Charles Hudon wristed the puck from down low, short-side and got the IceCaps on the board in the first four minutes of the game.  Josiah Didier and Keegan Lowe got the helpers on the goal and looked to be a dangerous defensive pairing.

Not long after that, on the first power play of the evening, Chris Terry gave the IceCaps a 2-0 lead off a perfect pass from Nikita Scherbak.

In the first two periods there were two times when the teams played 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes while players served roughing minors, however no scoring happened durin the second frame.  Daniel Audette came close to ending his 26-game goal drought on more than one occasion, but Linus Ullmark kept the puck out of the net each time.

To start the third period, Joel Hanley rang one off the post close enough to make the goal lamp turn on, but it wasn’t quite in the net. During the final frame, the Americans found themselves on the man advantage a little more often but the IceCaps were strong on the penalty kill, thanks in part to Josiah Didier being back in the lineup.

Despite a flurry of activity around Charlie Lindgren, the Americans couldn’t find a way to get a puck into the net and Lindgren earned his fourth shutout of the season.

The IceCaps now have some work to do as they wait for a couple of tough opponents to come into town next week: the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and the Hershey Bears.
