Training camp is an opportunity for fans to get looks at young players who don't have the same familiarity as a Plekanec, Subban and Price. When camp buzz builds about a particular prospect, it's predictable that the question is asked, "Do you think that he can make the Canadiens line-up this season?" For a variety of reasons, the answer is almost always "no."

People of all ages streamed into the seats in the first two days of rookie camp to take in a short scrimmage -- Habs fans are hockey-starved. The players seem to feed off the energy in the building with the inter-squad games being spirited affairs. But the reality is that patience is the key emotion when viewing propects -- for most it will be years before they find their way into the Canadiens line-up, if at all.

There were some new faces attending camp on a try-out basis, players like Jordon Southorn, Ben Winnett and Phillip Desimone. The latter two are former teammates of Max Pacioretty when the Canadiens forward played for Sioux Falls and the University of Michigan. Born in Montreal, Southorn is a physical defenseman drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft by the Buffalo Sabres.
