Game Report

The Belleville Senators got right back to work on Saturday when they hosted the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Belleville was riding high after they snapped a five-game losing skid the night before in Utica, but the Sound Tigers got the better of the Senators earlier this season and were looking to take another game from Belleville.

The first period was played pretty evenly. The teams went back and forth early in the period but the second half of the period was all Belleville. Reigning AHL player of the week, Ben Sexton, opened the scoring when he deflected a Macoy Erkamps point shot past Eamon McAdam. After a Michael Dal Colle tripping penalty, Nick Paul doubled the Senators lead with a wrister from the high slot. After 20 minutes, Belleville led 2-0.

In the second period, the Sound Tigers cut into the Belleville lead. Josh Ho-Sang beat Marcus Hogberg while on the man advantage to bring Bridgeport within one. The rest of the frame was mostly uneventful, the Senators had their chances to restore their two-goal lead, but they did not capitalize. After two periods, the Senators led 2-1.

The third period was where the wheels fell off for Belleville. After playing a good 40 minutes, the third was a tough period for the Senators. Just over two minutes into the frame, Parker Wotherspoon fired a slapshot past Hogberg to even the score. Later in the frame, after an undisciplined Filip Chlapik boarding penalty, Wotherspoon scored his second of the period to give Bridgeport their first lead of the night. Ben Holmstrom added an empty netter to put the game away.

The Senators allowed four unanswered goals in this one after leading 2-0 after the first period. As has been the case many times this season for Belleville, discipline was a major problem for the Senators. Belleville get right back to work Sunday afternoon when they host the Toronto Marlies.
