The Senators were coming off a disappointing loss the night before when they allowed four unanswered goals in a 4-2 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The first period was a back and forth frame. The first half of the period was in favor of the Senators and the second half was all Marlies. Andreas Englund opened the scoring with a back-hander that fooled Garret Sparks to make it 1-0. But just 20 seconds later, Ethan Werek took a tripping penalty that cost Belleville. Trevor Moore scored on the power play to even the score, 1-1. At the end of one, the two teams were tied but the Marlies very clearly had the momentum. In the second period, it did not take the Marlies long to grab the lead. Justin Holl scored just 30 seconds into the period on a harmless looking wrist shot that fooled Danny Taylor to make it 2-1. Toronto kept pouring it on Taylor in the Belleville net and it paid off. After a Daniel Ciampini holding penalty, Vincent LoVerde fired a one-time blast past Taylor to double the Marlies lead. After 40 minutes, Toronto led 3-1. The third period brought more of the same. Just over four minutes into the period, Andreas Borgman went high glove on Taylor to make it 4-1. It was all Marlies after that. Taylor somehow managed to keep the Marlies off the scoreboard the rest of the way despite the Senators being heavily out-shot. Toronto took this one by a score of 4-1. The Senators were thoroughly dominated in this one, allowing 51 shots while only getting 16. They looked sluggish in this one after playing on Friday and Saturday as well. After playing three games in as many days, Belleville will be off until Friday when they visit the Laval Rocket. ▲ ▼ |
