On this day in hockey history…1925 — Hockey Hall of Fame winger Ted Lindsay was born on this day in Renfrew, Ontario. Lindsay would join the Detroit Red Wings at the age of 19 and finished his playing career 20 years later with 379 goals and 472 assists in 1,068 games, winning four Stanley Cup Championships. 2005 — Seventh-round draft pick Henrik Lundqvist is signed to an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers five years after he is drafted. Lundqvist goes on to make the NHL roster out of training camp and wins 30 or more games in each of his first 11 full seasons. | |

► Former AHL All-Star, Emery, passes away
- The hockey community mourned the passing of two-time AHL All-Star and Stanley Cup Champion, Ray Emery, who died at the age of 35 earlier this month. Emery rose to prominence in 2007 when he backstopped the Ottawa Senators to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance, but before that, he led the then Binghamton Senators to two East Division titles and three consecutive appearances in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Emery also suited up in the AHL with the Adirondack Phantoms (2009-10), Syracuse Crunch (2010-11), Ontario Reign (2015-16) and Toronto Marlies (2015-16), posting a record of 84-63-19 with 10 shutouts in his 168 career AHL appearances.

► Wellar headed back to Hershey
- Patrick Wellar, who spent parts of six seasons as a defenseman with the Hershey Bears from 2008-2014, is heading back to Hershey as an assistant coach. He played in 260 regular-season games with the club, along with 36 postseason games. Wellar was a teammate of the Bears new head coach, Spencer Carbery, in South Carolina of the ECHL, winning a championship in 2009.
► Wild hire Army as head coach
- Tim Army has been hired by the Minnesota Wild to coach their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. Army has more than 30 years of coaching experience in the NHL, AHL and NCAA. He spent this past season as an assistant coach with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Army spent three seasons as a head coach in the AHL, coaching the Portland Pirates from 2002 to 2005, posting a record of 99-109-32 and reaching the postseason twice.

► New Jersey promotes Kowalsky to NHL
- Rick Kowalsky has been added to John Hynes’ coaching staff as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Devils. Kowalsky has been the longtime head coach of the Devils’ AHL affiliates, spending seven seasons coaching the Albany Devils from 2010 to 2017 and the Binghamton Devils last season. In 2015-16, Kowalsky earned the Louis A.R. Pieri Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach.

► Blue Jackets – Coyotes make a deal
- The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired forward Ryan MacInnis from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Jacob Graves and a conditional sixth-round choice in the 2019 Entry Draft. MacInnis, 22, recorded six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 59 regular-season games for the Tucson Roadrunners last season. He added two goals and an assist in nine Calder Cup Playoff contests. Graves, 23, appeared in 23 AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters last season, recording three goals and three assists for six points. He also had four assists in 24 games with Quad City (ECHL).

July 17:
- Tom McCollum has signed an AHL contract with the Milwaukee Admirals for the 2018-19 season. McCollum, a first-round draft choice of Detroit in 2008, is entering his 10th professional season. He has previously played for Grand Rapids, Charlotte and Stockton, winning a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids in 2013. He is the Griffins’ franchise leader in games (263) and wins (123) by a goaltender.
July 18:
- The Rochester Americans have signed forward Tyler Randell to a one-year American Hockey League contract. Randell spent last season with the Belleville Senators, tallying eight points in 57 games. Randell has appeared in 288 regular season AHL games in seven pro seasons with Belleville and Providence, collecting 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points.
July 23:
- The San Diego Gulls have signed forward Corey Tropp to a one-year American Hockey League deal. Tropp, 28, is coming off a solid season in which he tallied 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 50 games. He is the leading scorer in franchise history with 108 career points in a Gulls uniform.
- Rich Clune is returning to the Toronto Marlies after agreeing to terms on a two-year contract. Clune, 31, is entering his fourth season with the Marlies organization and served as an assistant captain for last year’s Calder Cup champions. Clune registered three goals and one assist in 47 regular season games.
July 24:
- The Colorado Eagles have signed forward Grayson Downing to an AHL contract for the 2018-19 season. Downing, entering his fourth professional season, skated in 48 AHL games with the Bakersfield Condors last season, tallying four goals and 19 assists for 23 points.
July 25:
- The Ottawa Senators have signed forward Adam Tambellini to a one-year, two-way contract. Tambellini, 23, is coming off a a solid season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, registering 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 69 games. In his three seasons with the Wolf Pack, Tambellini tallied 99 points in 211 games.
- The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Eric Tangradi to a one-year, two-way contract. Tangradi is coming off a career year, setting career highs for goals (31) and points (64). Tangradi has appeared in 426 regular season games in the AHL, playing for Grand Rapids, Hamilton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He has registered 150 goals and 166 assists for 316 points, reaching double digits in goals in each of his eight seasons.
July 26:
- The Belleville Senators have agreed to terms with defenseman Stuart Percy on a one-year American Hockey League contract. Percy, 25, appeared in 67 regular season games with the Rochester Americans last season, posting career highs with seven goals, 27 assists, 34 points and a plus-7 rating. Percy was a first-round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2011 draft. Selected 25th overall, Percy appeared in 12 NHL games with the Leafs, tallying three assists.
