Laval is undefeated through two matchups, including a 4-3 victory on Saturday. Yannick Veilleux and Arsen Khisamutdinov drew back into lineup. Veilleux returned after serving his two-game suspension. Michael Pezzetta and Liam Hawel skipped their turns for this match. Cayden Primeau was in goal for Laval. In his last start, Primeau stopped 25 saves in Friday’s game against Stockton. First PeriodThe ice was still wet when the red light went on. During the second minute of play, Joel Teasdale knocked the puck, while being tripped up, towards Joseph Blandisi and he beat Garret Sparks between the pads on Laval’s first shot on goal. Two minutes later, Veilleux received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing Martin Pospisil. It was a dangerous play that will likely result in Veilleux getting suspended for the second time within a week. Laval’s penalty kill unit shut down Stockton’s five-minute man advantage, allowing only three shots on goal. It took 10:03 of action before Heat got another shot on goal, and it was from a one-timer by Michael Stone that beat Primeau blocker side to tie the score with 1:41 remaining. Second PeriodThere was no scoring in the second period. Each team wasn’t able to capitalize on the two power plays that they received. Laval applied pressure throughout the frame outshooting their opponents 14-6, but were unable to get any pucks behind Sparks. Stockton had its most dangerous opportunity in the final 90 seconds of the frame, that forced Primeau to make key saves. The period ended with some pushing and shoving as the animosity was growing between the teams, as it usually occurs during a series. Third PeriodThe Rocket took back the lead with 5:01 remaining in the third period. Ryan Poehling intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, and dropped it to Blandisi who skated into the offensive zone and fed Teasdale for the goal. Jordan Weal put his team in a dangerous situation as he threw the puck directly into the empty seats to give Stockton a power play with 3:32 remaining. The Heat pulled their goalie to have a two-skater advantage during the power play, and Blandisi capitalized to clear the puck into the empty net with 1:45 remaining. Teasdale added another empty goal with six seconds remaining to give Laval a 4-1 win. What’s Next? With the victory, the Rocket extended their win streak to five games. The teams finish their series on Tuesday at 7:00 pm eastern. Laval will have the day off on Monday.
