Scott Gordon‘s lines looked a bit different, with Wade Allison getting promoted to the top line and Zayde Wisdom moving down to the second line. Additionally, Connor Bunnaman and Carsen Twarysnki slotted in after being sent down from the Flyers taxi squad. First PeriodIf you like goals, then the first period was for you. Captain Cal O’Reilly kicked off the scoring when he potted his own rebound off of a Penguins defender. Less than a minute later, however, Wilkes-Barre answered right back when Felix Robert put in a rebound himself off of Zane McIntyre. While Chris Bigras sat in the penalty box for interference, Drew O’Connor scored after finding himself all alone in the right circle. Next up was Tyson Foerster with a shot that banked off of goaltender Alex D’Orio‘s skate and into the Penguins net. That was Foerster’s fifth point in the past two games. Finally, just after his own penalty expired and he exited the box, Pierre-Olivier Joseph walked in and went bar down on a Penguins power play to score his first of the season and give Wilkes-Barre a 3-2 lead just before intermission. Second PeriodFor the better part of the middle frame, the goal lamp remained dark, although Isaac Ratcliffe and Garrett Wilson both had very good scoring chances that D’Orio was able to shut down. Wilkes-Barre extended their lead when Jan Drozg buried a snap shot form the left circle, but Allison got it right back when he danced around a defender to get into the slot and fire a shot past D’Orio. Third PeriodIt was a battle for the Phantoms to find an equalizer in the third period, with D’Orio coming up big for the Penguins and making stops every time a Lehigh Valley player got open. Things were coming down to the wire and Gordon pulled McIntyre with more than two minutes remaining to give his team a six-on-five advantage. With 49 seconds left in regulation, Bunnaman set up Foerster for his second goal of the night, a wrister from the circle, to tie the game and force overtime. The game eventually went to the shootout, where Foerster again played hero as he was the only shooter on either side of the ice to find the back of the net.
