On Wednesday, Laval ended up on the winning side of an offensive festival between the division rivals. In the season series, each team has won three times. Jean-Francois Houle went with a formation of 11 forwards and seven defencemen as Tory Dello returned after missing Wednesday’s match due to illness. John Parker-Jones was scratched to make room for Dello. Cayden Primeau got the start in goal for the fifth consecutive match, after making 29 saves in Wednesday’s victory. First PeriodLaval obtained a power power play midway through the period, but Rochester prevent their opponents from taking any shots on goal during the two minutes. The referee had his arm up for an infraction on Riley McKay when the Americans pressed in the offensive zone. With the extra attacker on the ice Jeremy Davies from the back of the net found Jiri Kulich in the slot and he beat Primeau. Laval’s second power play did not go any better. There was some confusion for the Rocket in the offensive zone blue line and Mason Jobst jumped on the loose puck and headed on a breakaway to score a shorthanded goal. In the final moments of the period, McKay and Sean Malone dropped the gloves after McKay collided with Michael Mersch in the neutral zone. Second PeriodLaval got another power play opportunity early in the period, and nothing was working for them. Rochester’s penalty kill units prevented Laval from setting up or creating any chances. The man advantage was cut short when Xavier Simoneau received a minor for charging Jobst. Rochester’s forward did not appreciate the contact and immediately dropped the gloves with Simoneau. The Americans needed 12 seconds of four-on-four action to add to their lead Matt Bartkowski‘s pass was redirected by Davies into the net. Midway through the period, Lukas Rousek had a breakaway opportunity that was stopped by Primeau. Despite being dominated up to that point, the save sparked Laval on the other end of the sheet and Anthony Richard, Peter Abbandonato and Olivier Galipeau had qualiity scoring chances in a short time frame. Laval got on the board on their fourth power play when Pierrick Dube tapped in Lucas Condotta‘s rebound behind Michael Houser. William Trudeau extended his point streak to three games with an assist on the sequence. Third PeriodLaval kept the momentum going their way in the third period by controlling the play the entire time. McKay dropped the gloves against Tyson Kozak early into the frame. His night was over as he was given a game misconduct for engaging into a second fight. At 8:31 mark, Condotta from behind the opposition’s net made a pass that hit Peter Tischke‘s skate and wound up in the slot where Dube snipped the puck in the net. With Primeau in the bench for the sixth skater, Mitchell Stephens put a stick on a bouncing puck in the slot to complete Laval’s comeback. The goal extended Stephens point streak to four games and Dube collected his third point on the net. Rochester had no answers in the third and was outshot 18-2. In overtime, Abbandonato drew a slashing penalty as he drove to the net. Two seconds after the minor expired, Nicolas Beaudin set up Richard for a one-timer goal from the top of the faceoff circle. What’s Next?Laval’s 4-3 win completes the two-game sweep against their division rivals. Two points separate the teams in the North division with Rochester holding two games in hand. The Rocket turned the motors on in the second half of the contest outshooting the Americans 35-6 from the midpoint through regulation time. Laval hosts the Rockford Icehogs on Saturday at 7:00pm Eastern. Frederic Allard, acquired earlier in the day in exchange for Nate Schnarr, will join the team on Monday.
