Canadiens agree to terms on one-year contracts with Gabriel Dumont and Morgan Ellis

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Monday that the team has agreed to terms on one-year, two-way contracts (2015-16) with forward Gabriel Dumont and defenseman Morgan Ellis.
Dumont, 24, suited up for three games with the Canadiens in 2014-15. He registered eight hits and four shots on goal while playing an average of 9:07 per game. Dumont added 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) in 66 games with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. Named as team captain at the beginning of the season, he enjoyed his most successful season in the AHL in goals, assists and points, ranking respectively second, fourth and third on the Bulldogs.
The 5’10’’, 189 lbs forward has played 18 regular-season games in his career with the Canadiens in the NHL. Since his professional debut in 2010-11, Dumont has collected 154 points (73 goals, 81 assists) in 318 regular season contests with the Bulldogs in the AHL.
A native of Ville Dégelis, Quebec, Dumont was selected in the fifth round, 139th overall by the Canadiens at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Ellis, 23, took part in 27 games with the Bulldogs in 2014-15 recording nine points (3 goals, 6 assists), 13 penalty minutes and a +3 differential. The 6’01’’, 207 lbs defenseman added 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 39 games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, leading the team defensemen in goals and points. Since his professional debut in 2012-13, Ellis has totaled 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 157 regular season contests with the Bulldogs in the AHL.
A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Ellis was selected in the fourth round, 117th overall by the Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
