Game Report

It had been exactly a week since the IceCaps last visited the Syracuse Crunch for a physical, fight- and penalty-filled matchup.  And while there were moments where it seemed that tensions could boil over, this game was a much more disciplined, organized effort.

The St. John’s team came out looking much more energetic and able to keep up with the pace set by a speedy Crunch group.  Yann Danis was in between the pipes for the IceCaps, giving Charlie Lindgren some much-needed relief.  At times Danis seemed to struggle when handling the puck, and gave up more than one big rebound, but he clamped down and denied shot after shot.

Newcomer Anthony Camara got the IceCaps on the board first, late in the opening period, assisted by Julien Brouillette.  Things started to heat up a bit in the second frame, and when Jonathan Racine took an ill-timed cross-checking penalty, Syracuse capitalized on the ensuing power play.

In the third period, the Crunch turned up the pressure on the IceCaps and pinned them in their own end for a good portion of the 20 minutes.  But Danis stood strong and the defenders blocked many of the home team’s 17 shots in the period, forcing overtime.

It only took a little more than a minute for Daniel Audette to bang a puck into the Syracuse net, with the help of Stefan Matteau and Brouillette to seal the win for the IceCaps.

The IceCaps finally head home now after being on the road for nearly a month.  They begin their next home stand on Friday when they welcome the Hartford Wolf Pack to Mile One Centre.
