Game Report

The Brampton Beast returned to the Powerade Centre ice on Saturday night for Game 2 of their second round Kelly Cup series with the Manchester Monarchs leading the series 1-0.

With Manchester known for being a powerhouse team, the Beast players knew they’d have to get up quickly for this one, and Jordan Henry lit the lamp for Brampton towards the end of the first period of play.  He was assisted by Luke Pither and David Vallorani for the power play goal.

It was the only goal scored on the man advantage for either team on this night, with the Brampton penalty killers keeping the puck away from Zach Fucale on five different occasions.  Fucale came up big multiple times in this game as he made some tremendous saves on dangerous shots.

But the Monarchs stormed back in the second period with two goals of their own, about five minutes apart.  The second goal was a blast from the point that made its way into the net to give Manchester a one-goal lead for the first time in the game.

The Beast seemed determined to turn things around, firing off shot after shot, and getting many close chances that just wouldn’t go across the goal line, or in some cases ringing off the crossbar.  Opposing goaltender Sam Brittain made some pretty spectacular saves of his own to keep the Monarchs in it.

Brampton pulled their netminder for an extra attacker towards the end of the game, but Manchester took advantage and potted an empty-netter instead, putting the final nail in this game to win it 3-1.

The series is now tied 1-1 as the teams head to Manchester for three games in three nights starting on Monday.
