Game Report

After a disappointing series in Toronto, the Belleville Senators returned home Wednesday night to host the Laval Rocket. The Senators were looking to bounce back after a pair of very tough results against the Marlies.

The first period was far more encouraging for Belleville than any of the periods they played in Toronto. The game had a good pace to start and the Senators even had some extended pressure in the Laval zone. After a Jordan Boucher tripping penalty, the Senators headed to the man advantage. Though they did not score on the ensuing power play, they came very close on a Christian Jaros blast that hit the post which was initially ruled a goal.

After that, Belleville kept it coming. Colin White blocked an Eric Gelinas point shot and went in all alone on Charlie Lindgren. Lindgren got a piece of it but it still found its way to the back of the net. The Senators led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play, out-shooting Laval 12-11 and also hitting three posts.

The second period was a little more defensive than the opening frame. After exchanging a lot of chances and going back and forth in the first period, the teams played more conservatively in the second. But despite that, the Rocket did put one on the board courtesy of a Daniel Carr wrist shot right off a clean Peter Holland face-off win to tie it 1-1.

But the Senators answered just two minutes later. Jim O’Brien fired a one-timer past Lindgren on the power play to restore the Belleville lead. At the end of two, the Senators led 2-1.

In the third period, the Rocket struck back. After a Jordan Murray slashing penalty, Chris Terry scored on the power play to tie the game up. The teams needed an overtime period to determine a winner; after 60 minutes of play they were tied 2-2.

In the extra frame, the Senators came out strong and just 52 seconds into overtime, Jack Rodewald tucked a wraparound past Lindgren to win the game for Belleville.

Belleville played a solid game and got back on track with a 3-2 victory over Laval after being dominated by Toronto in their last two games. They will look to build off of this victory Friday with the Marlies visiting Yardmen Arena.
