Game Report

After a tough result last week in Syracuse, the Belleville Senators welcomed the Crunch to Yardmen Arena. The Senators were looking for some revenge and had a week to prepare for this rematch with the Crunch.

But the Senators did not get off to the start they wanted. They opened the game on a four-minute man advantage after Michael Bournival was nailed for high-sticking Tyler Randell. But they did not register a single shot on the extended power play. Later in the period, Alexander Volkov scored off a feed from Kevin Lynch to make it 1-0. Then it was Mitchell Stephens who doubled the Crunch lead. After 20, Belleville trailed by two.

The second period was not much better for the Senators. After an Erik Burgdoerfer hooking penalty, Jamie McBain fired one from the point past Danny Taylor to make it 3-0 Syracuse. Later in the period Belleville found themselves on the power play but Stephens scored his second of the night on a short-handed breakaway to extend it to 4-0. At the end of two, the Sens trailed by four.

In the third, Chris Driedger replaced Taylor in the Belleville net and the Crunch added two more goals for good measure. Just past the halfway mark of the period, Anthony Cirelli scored a power play marker to make extend the Crunch lead to five. Then it was Volkov beating Driedger with a rather harmless looking shot to make it 6-0.

Belleville was thoroughly dominated in this loss to Syracuse. The Crunch scored a pair of goals in each period and limited Belleville to just 18 shots, giving Connor Ingram his first professional shutout. The Senators power play did them no favors in this regard as they went zero for eight on the evening.

The Senators have a few days to collect themselves and examine this loss before they welcome the Binghamton Devils to Yardmen Arena on Wednesday.
