It was the first meeting between the division rivals and both teams were looking for a positive result after they both lost by six goals in their last games. The opening frame had a good pace. The teams went back and forth all period and exchanged some quality chances. Chris Kelly had a great chance to open the scoring on a clear-cut breakaway but was denied by Ken Appleby. Just minutes later, the Devils opened the scoring on a strange goal from Ryan Kujawinski, to make it 1-0. The Senators were looking to get some energy in the building after allowing the opening goal. Max McCormick looked to provide it after getting into a spirited scrap with John Quenneville. Christian Jaros and Nathan Bastian quickly followed suit, bringing the home crowd alive before the intermission. After one period, Belleville trailed by one. The second period was more encouraging for the Senators. They had long stretches of pressure in the Binghamton zone but did not solve Appleby. Later in the frame, Andreas Englund nailed Brandon Gignac along the boards with a punishing, but clean, hip-check. The Devils did not like it and for the second time in the game, a large scrum ensued. To the surprise of the fans, the Senators were not given a power play despite Binghamton initiating all the fighting this time around. After the teams played a little four-on-four hockey, it was Belleville who were penalized. This time it was Mike Blunden picking up a questionable roughing call after the whistle. That came back to bite the Senators as the Devils scored with 15 seconds remaining in the period. It was Blake Speers picking up the goal after a mad scramble in front of Chris Driedger. At the end of two periods, the Senators trailed 2-0. But the Senators turned it around in the third. Though Kevin Rooney made it 3-0 on a wraparound, Belleville scored three unanswered in the third period. First, Filip Chlapik deflected a Jordan Murray shot past Appleby. Then it was Gabriel Gagne to make it a one-goal game with 10:18 remaining in the third. Finally, Ben Harpur scored late to make it 3-3 and send the game to overtime. The overtime period was mostly uneventful; the two sides exchanged chances but there were not many high quality chances. The extra frame solved nothing, and these teams needed a shootout. In the shootout, Colin White scored the only goal. Driedger stood tall in the Belleville crease and the Senators completed an impressive comeback to win 4-3.
