Game Report

After what many are touting as their worst game of the season in Toronto on Saturday, the Laval Rocket spent a few days practicing before heading to Binghamton to take on another divisional opponent.

This game opened much differently then the last one. The Rocket controlled the puck and pace early on, maintaining a strong forecheck throughout the first period. Partially thanks to some penalties on the Devils in the first half of the period, the visiting team outshot the home team 14-4 in the opening frame.

As is usual with these two teams, tensions ran high and physical play was ramped up from the first puck drop. On a late four-on-four, Markus Eisenschmid deflected an Eric Gelinas point shot to put the Rocket up 1-0 just seven seconds before intermission.

The second frame was a busy one for the penalty boxes, with David Broll earning himself a 10-minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct, Michael McCarron with back-to-back penalties for roughing and slashing, a holding call on Antoine Waked, and a too-many-men penalty served by Jordan Boucher.

Despite that, the Laval penalty kill and four-on-four units were strong and denied the Devils any special teams opportunities.  Instead, McCarron and Simon Bourque combined on a speedy two-on-one shorthanded where Bourque made a perfect pass to McCarron for him to lift the puck past Ken Appleby to make it 2-0 before second intermission.

Thomas Ebbing scored his first AHL goal to open the third period, and although Binghamton did manage to get one puck past Zachary Fucale before the final horn, Jeremy Gregoire tallied an empty-netter to put a stamp on this game and help ensure a much-needed victory for the Rocket.

The team now hopes to ride the momentum from this win into their next two divisional games on the road in Utica and Syracuse.
