Game Report

The Rocket returned to Laval to take home ice at Place Bell on Wednesday night against their neighbors, the Belleville Senators.

The first period started well for the Rocket – the way that coach Sylvain Lefebvre and many of the players told our team over the weekend they need play, and that’s by coming out firing in the opening frame.

Laval maintained good puck possession and pressure throughout the early part of the period, and despite taking two penalties in the first ten minutes they managed to keep Belleville out of Charlie Lindgren‘s net.

That changed when Jack Rodewald deflected a puck in the slot to put the Senators up 1-0 over the Rocket. Things seemed to slide even further late in the period when Daniel Audette was called for slashing and Laval’s struggling penalty kill took the ice.

However, on a 2-on-1 breakaway, Jeremy Gregoire skated the puck through the neutral zone and sniped one over Danny Taylor‘s shoulder shorthanded to even the score at 1-1.

Not long into the second period, Kyle Baun scored his fourth goal of the season when he wristed the puck past Taylor from the slot off of a no-look centering pass from Antoine Waked to make it 2-1 for the home team.

After Eric Gelinas went to the box for holding, Noah Juulsen fed a back pass to Adam Cracknell on an odd-man rush and Cracknell immediately fed the puck over to Daniel Audette who banked a shot past Taylor shorthanded to extend the Laval lead to 3-1.

Belleville got one of those goals back late in the frame when Michael McCarron lost control of the puck behind the Laval net and Gabriel Gagne scooped it right up and roofed it over Lindgren.

The third period was full of penalties, but this time no one could score when given the opportunity. Lindgren stood tall in the crease, and the Rocket were able to hold onto their lead to get a much-needed victory at home.

Just one day of practice tomorrow before the Hershey Bears come to Laval for the Rocket’s next home game.
