Game Report

After allowing 53 shots in a 5-1 loss against Binghamton, the Belleville Senators got right back to work when they hosted the Laval Rocket on Saturday. The Senators were also looking to get some revenge on the Rocket after Belleville dropped their last meeting with Laval.

The first period was better than the night before in Binghamton, but it was still not a great start for the Senators. Laval’s first shot of the night was a harmless looking wrist shot from the blue line by Daniel Audette, it managed to fool Marcus Hogberg, giving the Rocket an early lead. After the opening frame, the Senators trailed Laval 1-0.

But the second period was a different story. There was much more action than the opening period and it showed on the scoreboard. Nick Paul got the Senators on the board with a beautiful goal just over a minute into the frame. Laval quickly got it back with a goal from David Broll to restore the Laval lead.

Belleville kept the pressure on, even after allowing a quick goal after they had scored. After Laval was nailed for too many men on the ice, the Senators evened the score again with another goal from Paul. Paul completed the natural hat-trick after a beautiful passing play between Paul, Colin White and Ben Sexton. After 40, the Senators led 3-2.

In the third period, the Rocket regained control. Just over four minutes into the period, Jeremy Gregoire scored to tie the game up, 3-3. Then just over two minutes later, Markus Eisenschmid gave Laval the lead. They did not look back, as they outlasted the Senators to win this game 4-3.

Despite the great efforts from Paul and Sexton who both had three points, the Senators fell to the Rocket. Belleville gets back to work Tuesday when they host the Binghamton Devils.
