AHL ALL-STAR CLASSIC | Scott Howson, Player Development, All-Stars, Interviews, AHL, Rocket Sports Media
LAVAL, QC — Prior to puck drop for the AHL All-Star Classic tournament, league president Scott Howson met with members of the media. He gave a brief ‘state of the league’ statement, his first such press availability in his tenure, and then answered reporters for about 25 minutes in a question-and-answer session.
State of the League
Howson was quick to announce that the AHL has successfully rebounded from the financially unstable two years of COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and pauses. The president stated that revenues will likely hit record numbers this year, including corporate revenue.
He also praised the Laval Rocket staff for putting on a spectacular event, and commended the All-Star players for their compete level during the weekend. The fans were treated to quite a show.
Questions and Answers
Howson then went on to answer question about hot topics around the league, including making a wider array of statistics available publicly, video review, league disciplinary procedures, and development of coaches, to name a few.
He also discussed any potential to expand the league beyond 32 teams, and any possibilities for divisional realignment, expanded playoffs, and a more diverse schedule for teams.
AHL Report correspondent Chris G. was on hand in Laval today to attend the press conference. Listen to Scott Howson’s full remarks in the player below!
