Brampton Beast Media Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John’s IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, are proud to release their schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 ECHL season.
The 72-game schedule released by the ECHL today features a combination of familiar foes as well as old and new rivals for the Beast as the club continues to strive toward its first Kelly Cup championship.
The season kicks off with a date against our North Division rivals, the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The Beast’s Home Opener is scheduled for Friday, October 21 as they host the Toledo Walleye at the Powerade Centre at 7:15 PM.
The club will face three new opponents this season that they did not meet at all during the 2015-16 campaign, including the Cincinnati Cyclones as well as former Central Hockey League rivals the Missouri Mavericks and Quad City Mallards.
The Beast hope to do the Montreal Canadiens proud as they renew their historic rivalry with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ ECHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears. The two teams will square of for a pair of three-game sets. The Beast will visit the Sunshine State for three games against the Solar Bears on November 25, 26 and 27. The Beast will play host to the Solar Bears for another three games, scheduled to take place at the Powerade Centre on March 23, 24 and 26.
Students in Peel Region rejoice! The Beast will feature three School Day Games during the 2016-17 season. The first School Day game of the season will take place on December 1, 2016 as the Beast host the Quad City Mallards. One week later, the Beast host the Indy Fuel for another day game on Wednesday, December 7. The final School Day Game will feature the Beast against the Adirondack Thunder on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. All School Day Games are scheduled for 11:00 AM.
Spend Family Day 2017 with the Beast! On February 20, the Beast will be hosting the Wheeling Nailers at 11:00 AM on Family Day, a statutory holiday observed across Canada.
While the schedule length remains the same as last season at 72 games, this year’s assignment of games could be considered an improvement over last year’s arrangement. Last season, the Beast played three games in three days on 11 separate occasions. This season, the Beast schedule features only nine three-in-three situations.
The Beast will once again become very familiar with their North Division rivals and will face them for a combined 30 games during the 2016-17 season. The Beast will play the Wheeling Nailers more than any other team this upcoming season as the two teams will face off 11 times. The Toledo Walleye will clash with the Beast 10 times and the Beast will play the Kalamazoo Wings for eight games. The club’s will meet its closest geographical rival, the Elmira Jackals, nine times this season.
