BRAMPTON, ONTARIO –The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John’s IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today the signing of Canadian Hockey League (CHL) graduate Marc Beckstead to an Amateur Tryout Contract.
A 20-year-old native of Morrisburg, Ontario, Beckstead just completed his best year in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), appearing in 60 games with the Victoriaville Tigres, recording 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points and 121 penalty minutes.
He played for the Gatineau Olympiques for two seasons from 2013-14 to 2014-15 and where he played a total of 97 games, scoring 15 goals while adding 25 helpers with 141 penalty minutes. He proved his leadership abilities during the 2014-15 campaign as one of the club’s assistant captains.
Considered an offensive player with a gritty upside, Beckstead played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Frontenacs in 2012-13 prior to making the move to the QMJHL.
He played in 53 games during his rookie season in the CHL with the Frontenacs and made an impact with six goals and eight assists to go along with 33 penalty minutes.
