48-year-old will also retain duties as ‘Dogs goaltending coach

MONTREAL, QUE. – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Canadiens have appointed Vincent Riendeau as the Bulldogs’ assistant general manager. Riendeau will remain Hamilton’s goaltending coach and will oversee daily hockey operations.
The 48-year-old joined the Canadiens / Bulldogs organization as a goaltending consultant in June of 2012.
The St. Hyacinthe, Que. native began his professional hockey career with the Canadiens organization in 1986. He played in 184 games over eight seasons in the National Hockey League with the Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins, recording 85 wins, 65 losses, 20 ties and five shutouts. He also spent parts of five seasons in the American Hockey League playing in 98 games and recording 61 wins, 31 losses, three ties and six shutouts. Riendeau continued his career in Europe playing in Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain before becoming the first North American-born netminder to play with a Russian Superleague team when he suited up with the HC Lada Togliatti.
He joined the Toronto Maple Leafs organization as a goaltending consultant after his retirement in 2001, then joined the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Cape Breton Screaming Eagles as goaltending coach in 2004-05. He spent four seasons with Cape Breton as goaltending coach, and assumed the role of assistant general manager for the last two seasons (2006-08).
Riendeau has worked with several different European teams on a consulting basis as goaltending coach and assistant general manager, including Adler Mannheim (2005-07), HC Fribourg-Gotteron (2007), EC Kassel Huskies (2008-09) and Hamburg Freezers (2010-14). He also owns a goaltending school with summer camps in several areas of Quebec.
