Bulldogs’ Nystrom Released from PTO Contract, Heads to KHL

MONTREAL, QC. — Canadiens prospect Erik Nyström has left the Hamilton Bulldogs and is on his way to play for the team nicknamed the Bears in the KHL.  Medveščak Zagreb announced that they had signed Nyström to a one-year deal on the team’s website (see below.) Nyström had completed 17 games of his 25-game professional tryout contract with the Bulldogs.

Nyström will join the team this week and is expected to make his KHL debut on Thursday vs. HC Sibir Novosibirsk.

“Nyström is a Swedish player born in 1993 who will bring some good flexibility to our team, which we need because of the KHL’s quota for players under the age of twenty-one. He was the Montreal Canadiens’ sixth draft pick, and when he was playing for the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs at the age of twenty he earned five points in sixteen games.” — Aaron Fox, Director of Athletics, Medveščak Zagreb

Medveščak Zagreb is also home to former Bulldogs forward Mike Glumac and former San Jose Shark Jonathan Cheechoo.
