MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of free agent forward Stefan Fournier to a three-year contract (2013-14 to 2015-16).
In 66 games with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads in 2012-13, Fournier collected 72 points (35 goals, 37 assists). He led his team with 100 penalty minutes and maintained a +17 plus/minus differential. He added 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists) in 17 playoff contests. The 6’03’’ and 212 lbs forward helped Halifax capture the Memorial Cup with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in four games during the tournament held in Saskatoon in last May.
Fournier, 21, registered 212 points (101 goals, 111 assists) in 289 contests during his junior stint from 2008-09 to 2012-13. He served 337 penalty minutes and displayed a +27 plus/minus differential. He suited up for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Lewiston MAINEiacs, Victoriaville Tigres and Mooseheads.
A native of Dorval, Quebec, Fournier takes currently part in his first Canadiens’ development camp.
