TORONTO, ON — This week in review (January 7th – 13th), top honours once again belong to the Montreal Canadiens best college prospect.
Your comments are most welcome. If you have a question about any of the prospects email me, and perhaps it will be answered in the weekly All Habs Mailbag feature that appears on these pages on Thursdays.
The Three Stars
1. RW Danny Kristo
If one person has soared up the NCAA scoring charts in the last few weeks, it is Danny Kristo as he helps guide the success of The University of North Dakota. Kristo would begin his weekend scoring a goal for North Dakota in a 4-3 loss to the Colorado College Tigers, which also extended his goal scoring streak to six straight games. Kristo would make a more forceful presence in the following game, as he would score two goals and two assists to guide a 5-3 victory over Colorado College to finish off the weekend series. Kristo’s points streak has now extended to seven straight games, scoring 8 goals and 8 assists and with 13 goals, 17 assists on his season, he is tied for 3rd in NCAA scoring. Danny Kristo was drafted in the 2nd round, 56th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2008 NHL Draft.
2. LW Charles Hudon
If there is a team that is appreciating having their captain around, it is the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, who have only two wins out of the 12 games they’ve played without Charles Hudon this season with a 2-6-2-2 record. Hudon would begin the week scoring a goal and assist a 3-2 win for Chicoutimi over the Victoriaville Tigres. Hudon would next mark an assist in a 4-1 victory for Chicoutimi over the Quebec Remparts. Hudon pick up a goal in a 5-1 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix, but unfortunately Chicoutimi’s 5-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday. Hudon would pick up a single assist in a 4-2 loss to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Chicoutimi’s 1st loss since their captain returned from injury. Charles Hudon was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Draft.
3. C Gabriel Dumont
A hard season drags on for the Hamilton Bulldogs, but Gabriel Dumont continues to set the standard for playing through adversity. Dumont would score his team-leading 11th, which was also the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Marlies on Tuesday night. Dumont would score a goal in the following game, a 5-2 loss to the Rochester Americans on Saturday. Dumont’s 12 goals and 10 assists leads the Hamilton Bulldogs in scoring this season. Gabriel Dumont was drafted in the 5th round, 139th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2009 NHL Draft.
