TORONTO, ON — This week in review (January 28th – February 3rd), top honours belong to a name who hasn’t been heralded much this season.
Your comments are most welcome. If you have a question about any of the prospects email me, and perhaps it will be answered in the weekly All Habs Mailbag feature that appears on these pages on Thursdays.
The Three Stars
1. C Daniel Pribyl
Consistency has not been a strong suit for Daniel Pribyl this season in the Extraliga but for the time being he has begun his best run with Sparta Prague to date. Pribyl would start his week scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory over Kometa Brno. Pribyl would next open up with his 2nd 3-point game of his career after scoring one the previous week, scoring a goal and two assists in a 5-4 victory over Trinec. While his week ended in a loss, Pribyl would score his 4th goal in as many games in a 4-2 loss to Plzen. Pribyl is currently on a 4-game points streak, scoring 4 goals and 4 assists in that frame. Pribyl’s streak has raised him to just above a half point-per-game run on his season now with 19 points in 36 games, compared to 2 points in 17 last season in the Extraliga. Daniel Pribyl was drafted in the 6th round, 168th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.
2. LW Tim Bozon
Tim Bozon continues to enjoy a steady campaign with the Kamloops Blazers this season. Bozon would open up his week on Monday scoring a goal and assist in a 6-5 victory for Kamloops over the Kelowna Rockets. Bozon would next add an assist on Wednesday in a 5-2 loss to the Portland Winterhawks. Bozon’s production would pick up on Friday as he scored two goals and two assists for his 3rd four-point game of the season in a 7-4 win over the Spokane Chiefs. Bozon would finish the week with a single assist on Saturday in a 3-2 shootout win over the Everett Silvertips. Bozon is currently on an 8-game points streak, scoring 5 goals and 9 assists over the span. Bozon has reached a new career high with 72 points in 52 games, he matched his rookie output of 71 points in his 51st game which was 20 fewer games than it took him last year.. Bozon is currently tied for 5th overall in WHL scoring. Tim Bozon was drafted in the 3rd round, 64th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Draft.
3. D Darren Dietz
It has been a season of ups and downs for the Saskatoon Blades, but Darren Dietz continues to help as he can as the team’s defensive scoring leader. Dietz began his campaign scoring a goal and assist in a 5-1 victory for Saskatoon over the Brandon Wheat Kings. Dietz would mark a pair of assists for Saskatoon in the following game, a 6-0 whitewash of the Calgary Hitmen. Dietz would mark a 3rd consecutive 2-point game in a row, picking up 2 more assists as Saskatoon defeated the Swit Current Broncos 5-1. Darren Dietz was selected in the 5th round, 138th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.
