The first period was filled with penalties, but neither team was able to capitalize on the man advantage. In fact, for the first 40 minutes of play no goals were scored at either end of the ice. In the third period, Brampton got on the board with a snipe by Brandon MacLean, assisted by David Ling and Dalton Thrower. Just two minutes later, however, Reading answered right back with a goal by Olivier Labelle, which would eventually force overtime. During the extra period, the teams exchanged power play opportunities but again couldn’t convert them. Reading outshot Brampton 11-6 in the frame, but at the end of 80 minutes of play this game was still tied at 1-1. The second overtime period brought more close calls for the Beast, as they had a number of scoring chances. They even had a chance on a 5-on-3 advantage, but still couldn’t get the puck past Mark Dekanich. Finally, with less than five minutes remaining in the period, MacLean potted another goal to seal the victory for Brampton. Leading the series 3-2, the Beast now head back to Reading where they’ll look to eliminate the Royals in Game 6 to advance to Round 2 in the Kelly Cup playoffs. ▲ Brandon MacLean, Zach Fucale, Dalton Thrower, Luc-Olivier Blain, Willie Corrin ▼ |
