AHL Media Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that St. John’s IceCaps center Charles Hudon has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 29, 2015.
With the IceCaps kicking off a six-game road trip, Hudon tallied three goals and three assists in three games during a busy weekend as St. John’s continued to climb up the North Division standings.
Hudon tallied an assist in a 4-3 shootout loss in Rochester on Friday night, then helped St. John’s to a two-game sweep of division-leading Toronto. On Saturday afternoon at Air Canada Centre, Hudon scored twice as the IceCaps downed the Marlies, 6-2. Then on Sunday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum, Hudon recorded a pair of assists before tacking on another goal en route to a 5-1 St. John’s victory, extending the IceCaps’ points streak to eight games (5-0-2-1).
The 21-year-old Hudon ranks seventh in the AHL with 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 21 games for St. John’s this season. He was a member of the AHL’s All-Rookie Team in 2014-15 when he tallied 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 75 games for Hamilton, good for second among all league rookies in scoring. Hudon was also a co-winner of the 2015 AHL All-Star Game MVP award after notching a hat trick for the Western Conference team. A native of Alma, Que., Hudon was a fifth-round draft choice by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012.
In recognition of his achievement, Hudon will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming IceCaps home game.
