MONTREAL, QC— In a matchup that featured both Montreal Canadiens’ prospects currently evolving in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Drummondville Voltigeurs stepped up in the second half of the game and with some key stops by Louis-Philip Guindon (the majority of which were Charles Hudon breakaway attempts, which one might almost need two hands to account for in the second period alone), they ended up topping the visiting Chicoutimi Saguenéens by a final score of 4-2.

The game’s first goal by Volts’ captain Jérémie Malouin, in addition to provoking stuffed animals to rain down from the stands, appeared to fire up Marc-Étienne Hubert’s squad in addition to sending waves of red sweaters in the direction of the penalty box. Acting as the point-man, Hudon fired the tying goal behind Voltigeurs’ netminder Guindon on a 5 on 3 before repeating almost the same play to put his team up 2-1. The second shot was tipped in by Lukas Sedlak.

Then Hudon got tangled up with fellow prospect Olivier Archambault along the boards in his own zone, appearing to injure his left leg. After enlisting the help of two teammates to get him back to the bench, a few shifts later, he was no worse for wear.

In the meantime, however, the Voltigeurs decided to play catch-up hockey. Malouin took advantage of a Philippe Archambault penalty to tie the game at the 1:13 mark of the third, which was followed up by teammate Matt Boudens’ third goal of the season 16 seconds later. Outshooting their opponents 22-9 at that point, Drummondville rallied around their goaltender and Malouin potted his hat-trick goal into an empty net to seal the decision for the home team. For his part, Olivier Archambault finished with an assist on the evening.
