Game Notes:Solid effort. It was Canada’s toughest test of the tournament to date. Both teams played a hi-tempo game with the Fins excelling at their checking game.  But the Canadians avoided frustration creating opportunities by driving to the goal.  The line of Sam Reinhart, Max Domi and Anthony Duclair was dynamic. Reinhart had two goals pacing the line’s six point game.Special teams.  Canada scored the key opening goal on the power-play when Reinhart tapped in a rebound following a point shot by Shea Theodore.  Canada now has a lethal 50 percent success rate on the power-play (5-for-10.) Team Canada remained perfect on the penalty-kill for the tournament killing off two power-plays by Finland.

On the board. Habs prospect Artturi Lehkonen scored his first goal of the tournament near the end of the second period ending Canad’s shutout streak.

Attendance. The largest crowd so far at the Bell Centre, 15, 718, witnessed the game.

  • “[Max Domi] is very good. I don’t know what else to say. The way he is [playing], he’s a leader by example. He plays with passion, and right now he’s a three-zone player.”

Sam Reinhart

  • “It’s every line, every night, at least for the generating part of it. We were able to carry the momentum through all four lines and that’s what’s needed in a tournament like this.”
  • “They tighten up, but we moved the puck the best. We’ve got the most speed and it made it easier on entries. Against teams that trap, that’s what we’ve been practising.”

Curtis Lazar

  • “We know the program they have there (in Finland) is outstanding. They won the tournament last year. We knew we couldn’t take them lightly. I felt that all through our lineup, we were ready to go.”

  • “We got a lot of hope from that goal. We were really positive and we believed at that point that we could beat these guys. But then a couple penalties made things pretty clinical for them, and we should have done the same while we were on the power play. When we don’t score on the power play, it’s really hard to win.”
