Belleville was looking for a positive end to their seven-game homestand. But with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in town, they were in tough. But they got off to a great start. Just over three minutes in, Ben Harpur fired a wrist shot from the point past Alex Lyon to open the scoring. Then just before the opening period expired, Harpur put another one on net that was stopped by Lyon but Jack Rodewald potted the rebound to make it 2-0. At the end of 20, the Senators led 2-0 courtesy of a pair from two players returning from the big club. In the second period, the Senators got off to an even better start. Just 44 seconds into the frame, Gabriel Gagne put the puck in the open cage after an Erik Burgdoerfer shot took a strange bounce to him. That was the end on Lyon’s night, allowing three goals on 12 shots, being replaced by Dustin Tokarski. The goalie change woke the Phantoms up a little bit. After the Gagne goal, the Senators went over nine minutes without a shot on goal. Lehigh Valley had almost all the momentum and after a Patrick Sieloff turnover Mike Vecchione went in all alone on Andrew Hammond, making it 3-1. Then just over three minutes later, he scored again after another Sieloff turnover behind his net. After 40 minutes, the Senators were clinging to a 3-2 lead. But the third period was almost all Belleville. Just over three minutes into the frame, Gagne scored his second of the night, beating Tokarski far side after a nice give and go between him and Max McCormick. The Senators scored two more goals later on in the frame just 30 seconds apart. Jim O’Brien scored a power play goal with just over 5 minutes remaining, then it was Colin White on a two-on-one with Rodewald making it 6-2. The Senators finished off their season-high seven game homestand with a commanding 6-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Belleville has little time to celebrate as they head back out on the road with a game in Utica Friday night to face the Comets. ▲ Gabriel Gagne, Ben Harpur, Jim O’Brien, Andrew Hammond, Jack Rodewald ▼ Patrick Sieloff, Andreas Englund |
