The Senators were definitely looking for a bounce back performance but the Americans posed a tough challenge. The opening period was mostly uneventful. The Senators came out strong and the pace early in the frame favored them, out-shooting Rochester three to one in the early going. Both teams got power play opportunities in the first but did not make good on their chances. After 20 minutes, the teams were scoreless. The second period did not bring more offense. While the teams exchanged solid chances in the period, with Belleville getting the lion’s share of them. This included a Jack Rodewald chance in front of Linus Ullmark that was turned aside and a Max McCormick shot after a turnover from Seth Griffith in his own zone. Through two periods, the Senators and Amerks were scoreless. In the third period there was finally some offense, but unfortunately for the Senators, they were not the ones who did the scoring early in the period. For the third straight game, Belleville allowed three or more unanswered goals in the third. Sahir Gill scored twice in 23 seconds, first he deflected home an Andrew MacWilliam point shot, then scoring off a feed from Zach Redmond. Later in the frame, it was Redmond putting the game even more out of reach on a harmless looking shot that fooled Danny Taylor. Daniel Ciampini scored late but it did not matter as the Senators lost 3-1. The third period continues to be an issue for the Belleville Senators. Like this past weekend in their games against Manitoba and Binghamton, the Sens played a solid 40 minutes but the third period has not been kind to them. Belleville gets back to work Friday, hosting the Syracuse Crunch. ▲ ▼ Max Reinhart, Erik Burgdoerfer, Chris DiDomenico |
