Belleville was looking to sweep the two-game set in Manitoba, while the Moose were looking to avenge the loss from the previous night. The first period was almost all Manitoba. The home side came out strong and it paid off for them. They controlled much of the play early in the period, and just past the midway point of the frame, Michael Sgarbossa shot a little backhander from the slot that fooled Danny Taylor to make it 1-0. Just over a minute later, Peter Stoykewych fired a wrist shot past Taylor to quickly double the Moose lead. After 20, Belleville trailed 2-0. But the second period was better for the Senators. Just 26 seconds into the period, Ben Sexton scored his second goal in as many nights after Michael Hutchinson could not handle a harmless looking Jim O’Brien shot, leaving Sexton with an open net to shoot at. He made no mistake to cut into the Moose lead 2-1. The rest of the period was mostly uneventful, the Senators went into the third period trailing by one. The third period was a fairly quiet frame as well. But in the last half of the period, the Senators started to gain some momentum. With 2:55 remaining in the game, Filip Chlapik found Gabriel Gagne open in the slot, Gagne fired it past Hutchinson to tie the game up 2-2 and send the game to overtime. The overtime period did not last long. Just 35 seconds into the extra frame, Chlapik intercepted a Jack Roslovic pass in the Senators zone and burst in on a breakaway. He made no mistake sliding a beauty past Hutchinson to win the game for Belleville. The Senators capped off their nine-game road trip to open the season in grand fashion with this come from behind victory over Manitoba to take both games against the Moose. They finally have their home-opener Wednesday night, hosting the Syracuse Crunch. ▲ Filip Chlapik, Francis Perron, Gabriel Gagne, Danny Taylor ▼ Ben Harpur |
