ST. JOHN’S, NL (April 6, 2017) – Montreal Canadiens and St. John’s IceCaps General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the IceCaps have signed forward Niki Petti to an Amateur Tryout contract (ATO) for the remainder of this season and a one-year American Hockey League (AHL) contract for the 2017-18 campaign.
Petti, 20, scored 20 goals and 49 points in 51 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season. The six-foot, 204-pound centre just completed five full seasons in the OHL – the last two with Hamilton and the previous three with the Belleville Bulls.

This was likely in the hopes the centerman can overcome his injury issues and translate his excellent two-way play and steady offence to the professional ranks and earn a contract. […]
