Two teams kicked off their inaugural seasons when the Belleville Senators visited the Laval Rocket in the first game of a two-game set. The first period was played at a breakneck pace, with the Rocket enjoying most of the possession in the frame. Danny Taylor made a huge save in the early moments of the game, but after an Andreas Englund holding penalty, Daniel Audette opened the scoring. Then it was Michael McCarron gliding in undetected and beating a helpless Taylor, off a nice pass from Nikita Scherbak. The Sens trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. The second period of play brought more of the same. Taylor was called upon time after time to make big saves and he did just that. Thomas Chabot did his best to create some offense, springing Erik Burgdoefer on a partial break, but Lindgren was equal to the task. Later in the period, Max Reinhart fired a shot that beat Lindgren but did not beat the post, keeping the score at 2-0 after two periods. The third brought a revolving door of penalties and plenty of chances for the Senators to crack Lindgren. Belleville had 5 man-advantage opportunities in the frame but were unable to capitalize on any of them. They struggled to get anything going on the power play and when they did, Lindgren shut the door. Nicolas Deslauriers added an empty-netter to cement Laval’s victory over Belleville. These two teams turn around tomorrow for game two of the set. The Senators will be looking for redemption after they put up little resistance in this game. ▲ Danny Taylor, Thomas Chabot ▼ |
