Game Report

The Belleville Senators got back in action Wednesday night when they hosted the Syracuse Crunch. Coming off an impressive 4-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Senators were looking to ride that wave of momentum.

But the opening frame did not start well. Just over three minutes into the game, Jim O’Brien headed to the box for tripping. On the ensuing man advantage, Mitchell Stephens poked home the rebound of a Mathieu Joseph one-timer past Danny Taylor to make it 1-0. Belleville had their chances to equalize in the frame with three power play opportunities, but they did not make good on it. After 20, the Senators trailed 1-0.

The second period was rather uneventful. That was until the dying minutes of the frame. Max McCormick sprung O’Brien on a clear-cut breakaway. He made no mistake, beating Connor Ingram for his 10th of the season. After two periods, the Belleville Senators and Syracuse Crunch were knotted up 1-1.

The third period was just as uneventful as the second. The teams exchanged chances back and forth but few of them were high quality scoring chances. Mike Blunden had a chance to be the hero late in the third, following up on a Chris Kelly shot, but he was denied by Ingram. Regulation solved nothing, these teams needed overtime.

In the overtime frame, Syracuse started out with some extended pressure but could not beat Taylor. Then McCormick found himself on a two-on-one rush. He was thinking shot all the way and sniped it past Ingram to win the game for Belleville.

Belleville and Syracuse played a very tight game, both teams gave very little to their opponent. The Senators get back to work Friday night when they head to Laval for a meeting with the Rocket.
