MONTREAL, QC. — Two goals in the first period by Team Russia’s Mikhail Grigorenko and Eduard Gimatov would be enough to ensure that Canada would, for the second consecutive tournament, finish outside of the medals at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
It’s the first time in over 30 years since the tournament began that Canada has finished less than third for more than one year. The 2014 edition also featured the third-youngest lineup since 1982.
Canadian blueliner Josh Morrissey was the only one to beat Russia’s Andrei Vasilevski. For his part, goaltender Zachary Fucale made 30 saves on the night.
