ST JOHN’S, NL. — This week, the St. John’s IceCaps will face the Binghamton Senators for a pair on March 31st and April 1st.

St. John’s IceCaps
  • Following three losses and one win last week, the St. John’s IceCaps move up one spot in the North division to sit fourth, occupying the last playoff position. According to the AHL, the IceCaps magic number is 16 points to clinch a playoff berth with four home and four away games remaining on the schedule. 
Players to Watch
  • Jacob de le Rose – De le Rose has played 53 games with the IceCaps, accumulating a total of 25 points. His efforts in the IceCaps game against the Hershey Bears on the 25th earned him the first star of the game. 
  • Keegan Lowe – Lowe has played 13 games with the IceCaps, collecting a total of four points.
Notes Goaltenders
 The ‘Caps remain in the top three in the league for penalty minutes, with 1063 minutes so far this season. Penalties have definitely haunted the team this season. Discipline will be an important factor if the ‘Caps hope to defeat the Senators this week.

Binghamton Senators
The Binghamton Senators (25-38-2-2) rank at seventh in the North Division and 29th in the league overall. Despite being in the bottom of the league, the Senators have defeated the IceCaps in their last four games played. The Senators remain ahead of the IceCaps in the special teams penalty kill, which may work in their favour when facing them this week.

  • Patrick Sieloff – Sieloff has the most penalty minutes on the team with 93 minutes in 52 games played. 
  • Phil Varone – Varone leads the team with 46 points in 56 games played.
