Game Report

After a frustrating 6-2 loss on Friday with the tough Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in town, the Belleville Senators got right back to work Saturday night when they hosted the Hartford Wolf Pack. Belleville was no doubt looking for a bounce back performance after conceding six goals the night before.

The opening frame did not get off to a promising start with Scott Kosmachuk firing a wrist-shot past Danny Taylor off a nice drop pass from Neal Pionk just over a minute into the action. But the Senators got it right back just two minutes later. Francis Perron found Colin White cross-crease, White made no mistake to make it 1-1. After 20 minutes, the teams were tied at one apiece.

The second period was rather uneventful. There was no scoring in the frame but after White took a boarding penalty in the dying minutes of the frame, Max McCormick had the best chance of the period. It was a short-handed breakaway after some good defense, but Alexander Georgiev denied him to keep it 1-1. After two periods, the teams were still tied.

The third period was just as uneventful as the second, at least in the first 15 minutes, but the last 5 minutes was a completely different story. Filip Chytil finally broke the tie with 5:46 remaining in the game. But the Senators did not give in. Jim O’Brien scored his ninth of the season to tie it back up, 2-2. Then just 15 seconds later, Mike Blunden broke the tie off a nice feed from Chris Kelly. Blunden added an empty-netter to make it 4-2 and seal the deal.

Belleville showed a lot of character in this one. Taylor made big saves when needed and the Senators scored when it mattered most. Belleville gets back to work Wednesday with the Syracuse Crunch visiting Yardmen Arena.
