As Seen on YouTube: This blueline prospect can take care of his own end, contribute some offensive punch, and add a few other punches if needed, too.
The Specs: Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on July 17th, 1993, this 6’1″, 193-pound defenceman was picked in the 5th round, 138th overall by the Canadiens this year. Last season was his first full one as a member of the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades, where he put up 8 goals, 19 assists and 66 penalty minutes in 68 games.
The Skinny: Another right-handed shooter who contributed on both sides of the ice for the regular season champion Blades of 2010-11. Has many thinking he’s only a stay-at-home guy, but is known for some offensive moments as well. Finished third among Saskatoon blueliners in scoring behind two Avalanche prospects: 11th overall pick Duncan Siemens and last season’s WHL top defenseman, Stefan Elliott.
What you he may not know: That an orange is not a vegetable.
Next season…?: The most likely scenario involves Dietz returning for another season with Saskatoon. The new vacancies on the Blades’ defensive end will provide room for Dietz’ development as a reliable top-4 defenseman, perhaps even top-2.
On his favourite/best goal celebration: “I don’t score a whole lot but when I do, I like to make it look routine and act like it’s not a big deal, so I don’t really have a celebration.”
Social Media User?: Not quite. Sadly there were shutouts in both the Twitter and Facebook department.
