Brampton Beast Media Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens and St. John’s IceCaps, are pleased to announce that Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk has signed a two-year contract extension to remain as the club’s Head Coach through the end of the 2017-18 ECHL season.

The 2015-16 season was Chaulk’s first season as a Head Coach in the ECHL. The 39-year-old Toronto, Ontario native helped lead the squad to a 23-38-7-4 record this past season.

As a player, Chaulk has found success at every level as a six-time champion with the Fort Wayne Komets in the United Hockey League (2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons), the International Hockey League (2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons) and in the Central Hockey League (2010-11 season).

Chaulk is a natural leader wore the captain’s ‘C’ for eight seasons throughout his professional career and Beast President and General Manager Cary Kaplan is thrilled to have Chaulk’s leadership behind the bench for the Beast again this season.

“We are very excited to have Colin back for at least the next two seasons to continue building what we think will be something special in Brampton,” Kaplan said.

“We are confident that Colin’s unparalleled success as a player and captain at the ECHL level will soon translate to similar success as a Head Coach. “

Last season marked Chaulk’s debut as a Head Coach in the ECHL following one season as the Assistant Coach of the Kalamazoo Wings in the 2014-15 season and he is looking forward to building a winner in Brampton.

“We have some unfinished businesses here in Brampton with the Beast,” Chaulk said. “We made a lot of strides last season and now is the time to get this team turned around and I’m excited to be back and help see that through.”
