Game Report
The St. John’s IceCaps kicked off their 2016-17 season on the road with a game in Hartford to take on the Wolf Pack. A quick, early goal by Adam Tambellini less than two minutes into the game was appropriate foreshadowing of what was to come.
Charles Hudon evened the score with a nice shot from the circle, only to have Hartford regain the lead about 15 seconds later. The entire game was a back-and-forth event; St. John’s would tie things up, the Wolf Pack would answer with another goal.
Chris Terry got on the board with a power play goal late in the opening frame, and newly anointed team captain Max Friberg gave his team another tally, but Hartford kept coming.
Friberg, Jacob de la Rose, and Bobby Farnham all had tremendous presence on the ice throughout the game, with multiple scoring opportunities. The goal posts seemed to be the visiting team’s biggest opponent at times, as they buzzed around the net in the second period.
Stefan Matteau did not participate in this game, as he is serving the first of his two-game suspension from March when he was playing for the Albany Devils.
The IceCaps continue their three-in-three weekend on Saturday with a trip to New York to take on the Albany Devils.
