The Specs
  • Drouin finished second in QMJHL scoring, tallying 105 points in 49 games with the Halifax Mooseheads this season. He also added 35 points in 17 playoff games, plus another 9 during the Memorial Cup tournament. Like his teammate Nathan MacKinnon, he also turned heads at both the Under-18 and Under-20 levels this season.
The Skinny
  • He was by far the most fun player to watch in the QMJHL this season. Not only do his hands and creativity make for highlight-reel plays, he does just about everything to make people forget about his size, regularly outsmarting his opponents to get out of tricky situations with ease. He is also a power play juggernaut.
What you’ve probably heard by now
  • He has a rad bromance with MacKinnon.
  • He was also drafted right after him in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft.
  • But he has a longer list of 2012-13 acheivements….
  • CHL Memorial Cup Champion
    CHL Player of the Year
    CHL Top Prospects Game Participant
    Ivan Hlinka Gold Medal
QMJHL Best Professional Prospect (Mike Bossy Trophy)
    QMJHL Champion
    QMJHL First All-Star Team
QMJHL Most Valuable Player (Michel Brière Trophy)
QMJHL Personality of the Year (Paul Dumont Trophy)
    QMJHL Playoffs Most Assists (23)
    QMJHL Playoffs Most Points (35)
QMJHL Playoffs MVP (Guy Lafleur Trophy)
  • (Oh, is that all?)
  • Also this.
What you may not know
  • How does he describe the above clip? “I don’t know, it just happened.” Okay then.
  • He has six playoff game-winners in his QMJHL career, most-ever by a member of the Halifax Mooseheads.
  • He first played hockey in his boots, not learning to skate until the age of seven.
  • He has his own chauffeur.
From Mark Edwards, HockeyProspect.com:

“He is up with my favourite players ever to watch since I started scouting. He might be the smartest player in the draft and he is magic with the puck on his stick. His creativity combined with his skill is what makes him both dangerous as an offensive weapon and fun to watch as a fan. I actually heard a member of the media refer to his skating as a weakness on a hockey radio show during the Team Canada tryouts. It was a nice reminder why I could care less what media say about prospects.”
