RYCKMAN, DENNISON EARN BULLDOGS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Graduating student-athletes earn $1,000 scholarships for post-secondary education

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club announced today that Skyler Ryckman and Pressley Dennison – graduating students at Hamilton’s Sherwood Secondary School – have been selected as winners of the 2014 Bulldogs Foundation Scholarships. The Bulldogs Foundation Scholarships are awarded annually to two student-athletes who consistently display a concern for others, demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, initiative and participation to the best of their ability on a daily basis.

10478233_10152447319490589_3845819757014490061_nRyckman has displayed an abundance of sportsmanship and initiative playing junior hockey, senior hockey and floorball at Sherwood over the past four years. Ryckman has contributed to the community by volunteering in elementary school floorball tournaments and minor hockey and capped off his senior year as a peer leader/coach for the Sherwood Hockey Academy. He will attend McMaster University in the fall to study humanities and will play junior hockey in the Hamilton area.

An honours student throughout her time at Sherwood, Dennison was a fixture in the school’s hockey program, played varsity hockey and rugby and worked as a co-op student with the Billy Green Elementary hockey program. She has volunteered with the Stoney Creek Sabres, Schizophrenia Society of Ontario and Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton.  Dennison will be attending McMaster University this fall to study social sciences as she pursues a career in police services.

Ryckman and Dennison were each presented with a plaque at Sherwood Secondary School’s Convocation Ceremony today. As Bulldogs Foundation Scholarship recipients, both students received $1,000 towards their post-secondary school education.

Established in 2007, the mission of the Bulldogs Foundation is to enrich the lives of children and youth in the Greater Hamilton Area through cash donations, gifts in kind and the assignment of tickets. By doing so, the Foundation aims to promote the creativity of interactive programs involving education, physical fitness and personal well-being. The main purpose of the Foundation is to strengthen and broaden the base of the Hamilton Bulldogs community support by providing funds to non-profit community groups and by supporting educational and community programs.
